What’s a Kancheepuram Saree?
The unique feature of Kancheepuram sarees is its special weaving technique - the silk yarn used for weaving is made up of three single threads twisted together and woven with ‘zarigai’ (silver wire). This gives more strength and sheen to the Kancheepuram saree.
Kancheepuram sarees traditionally have been woven in surprisingly bold and at times even psychedelic colors. The motifs and designs are inspired by the architecture and culture prevalent in southern India dating back to almost 2nd century B.C!
Kancheepuram sarees are woven in pure silk, or with blends of cotton or linen.
